Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know that therapy is right for me?

Naturally as humans we feel a spectrum of emotions on a daily basis, however sometimes these emotions can become too much to handle. This is where therapy can be helpful and useful. Feeling hopeless? Maybe you've been excessively worrying? Having some relationship issues or life transitions? These are some common signs that you may be ready for therapy. You may also be feeling stuck in a rut and wanting to grow. Therapy offers a safe, neutral space for you to be able to explore your past, present and future.

What are your payment options? Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance, however, I can provide you with an itemized invoice each month that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. In this situation, please make sure to inquire with your insurance provider if they cover out of network services for mental health in order to be eligible for part or full reimbursement. Here are some questions to determine if you are eligible for Out-of-Network coverage.

  • what are my mental health benefits?

  • what is the coverage amount per therapy session?

  • how many therapy sessions does my plan cover?

  • how much does my insurance pay for an Out-of-Network provider?

  • is approval required from my primary care physician?

In terms of payment, I take all major credit cards and HSA. Payment is due at the start of each session.

How is my information kept confidential?

Under the protection of HIPPA, everything we discuss is completely confidential. There are a few exceptions to this, they are further discussed in more detail within the disclosure form. I also use an Electronic Records System that stores all of your personal and health information securely.

If there is a situation in therapy that comes up in which it seems helpful or necessary for me to talk with someone outside of you and I, such as a member of your family or healthcare team, you can complete a Release of Information (ROI) form. We will discuss that form upon the situation that presents itself.

How is therapy helpful?

Therapy can be helpful in more ways that one. Participating in psychotherapy offers numerous benefits to both individuals and those in relationships.Therapists can provide support, but also problem-solving skills and effective coping strategies for a range of challenges you may be experiencing. This can include anxiety, eating disorders, relationship issues, unresolved childhood trauma, grief, stress management, body image concerns, and creative blocks. Many individuals find counselors invaluable for navigating personal growth, interpersonal dynamics, family matters, marital issues, and everyday challenges. Therapists can also provide new insights on tough problems and guide you toward solutions. Ultimately, the effectiveness of therapy depends on how actively you engage with the process and apply what you learn.

What is therapy like?

Everyone's therapy experience is unique and catered to that individual's needs and goals. Therapy can sometimes be short-term or long-term depending on your presenting concerns and goals. You will find that we will talk about everything under the sun. Sometimes we will talk about topics like how your day is going and other times we may talk about what happened at your family BBQ that impacted you. There also may be times that you'll be asked to take our work outside of session, such as reading a certain book or working on some specific skills.
